  • Mission statement

To help us achieve wider publicity we are making full use of social media such as Facebook and Twitter. We also have our own website which contains a vast wealth of historical details, research and photographs.

We have the full support of Shoreham Port Authority (who own the land), our local and county councils and also the local media, all of whom advertise and support us in their publications. We also have the backing of English Heritage who has listed the site as a Scheduled Monument.

Free guided tours are an integral part of our volunteer days and they help engage the public and instil the national importance of this unique historical fort. Built in 1857 Shoreham Fort is now the last fort of its kind in the country. Lord Palmerston built Shoreham Fort to help protect the coastline from invasion by Napoleon III.

Other events at the site include our military history weekend where re-enactment groups bring Shoreham Fort to life. Cannons, guns, uniforms, military bands and vehicles all help to educate the spectators of the colourful life of the fort through the ages.
