Millennium Promise UK

Millennium Promise is the charity behind the Millennium Villages Project, working holistically to achieve the Millennium Development Goals and alleviate extreme poverty across Sub-Saharan Africa.

Founded 2007

  • Mission statement

The Millennium Villages Project addresses the root causes of extreme poverty, taking an holistic, community-led approach to sustainable development. The project aims to achieve all eight Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) in some of the world's poorest rural communities. Our work unites science, business, civil society and government in these efforts by empowering communities and partners alike to become a part of the solution. We know that no single intervention is enough. In order to affect lasting change in any one sphere, we must improve them all.

The Millennium Villages Project works directly with around half a million people throughout sub-Saharan Africa, with scale-ups launching across the continent. Through our dedication to the MDGs, Millennium Promise aims to:

    - Eradicate extreme poverty and hunger (MDG 1)
    - Achieve universal primary education (MDG 2)
    - Promote gender equality and empower women (MDG 3)
    - Reduce child mortality (MDG 4)
    - Improve maternal health (MDG 5)
    - Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria and other diseases (MDG 6)
    - Ensure environmental sustainability (MDG 7)
    - Develop a global partnership for development (MDG 8)

Together our generation can end extreme poverty.
