Home-Start Telford & Wrekin

We recruit and train volunteers to support parents of young children where they are experiencing difficulties. Befriending support is non-judgemental and helps families to work through their issues

Founded 1989

  • Mission statement

We are a family support charity working with parents with young children (at least one of the children must be under 5 years of age). Carefully selected, fully trained and vetted volunteers are matched with families to help them overcome the difficulties they are facing. Volunteers visit families at home on a weekly basis and offer friendly, non-judgemental, emotional and practical support. We support with a variety of issues including mental health, low self esteem, domestic abuse, isolation, behaviour problems, developmental issues (particularly speech and language), household routines, finanacial hardship, illness and diisability, relationship issues, multiple birth, use of community facilities.

Our work is regularly monitored and evaluated and volunteers are given 24/7 support as well as opportunities for further training (such as NVQs and specialist training in benefit advice and speech and language development). The scheme is managed on a daily basis by a manager with a management committee having overall responsibility for it's work.

We are externally reviewed by Home-Start UK every 3 years and in our review last year we were found to be meeting all the QA standards
