  • Mission statement

    "Bach for Life"
The London Bach Society (LBS) is the UK’s premier Bach Society, bringing the music of Johann Sebastian Bach ‘live’ to both the devoted follower and curious newcomer.

Founded by the eminent Bach scholar and conductor Paul Steinitz (1909-1988), the Society is performance-driven. Therefore all it does flows to and from the ‘live’ experience enabling the performer and listener to draw closer to Bach, his music, life and times, the composers he has influenced since and his place in our lives today.

The Society’s pioneering performances have changed the way we approach the performance of Bach’s music in this country.. They continue to open the door to Bach’s musical treasure-house for new generations of performers and listeners.

Operating as a charitable company, LBS is part of a Bach community that is global. Our own story is about a pioneering voyage of continuing musical discovery, innovation and adventure here in the UK performed and presented by the leading musicians and scholars of the day.

The Society promotes a Bach Festival, its own professional orchestra Steinitz Bach Players, the 18-30 Bach Club, a twice-yearly Journal, Orchestral Library, Website.

Bach Friends: This is our new scheme for donors launched in March 2013 and is open to everyone. Donations are invited in the range £50. 00 to £1,000 per year

The London Bach Society's 25th Bachfest is in 2015 and the Society's 70th anniversary is in 2016
