Best Beginnings is a charity dedicated to ending child health inequalities in the UK.
Best Beginnings is a small charity making a big difference to the lives of millions of babies across the UK. We are committed to working towards a society in which all children receive excellent care from the very beginning.
The child health inequalities that exist in the UK can result in premature birth, serious illnesses, developmental disorders and deaths in early infancy. They also have lifelong effects - children from lower socio-economic backgrounds are more likely to suffer from obesity, heart disease, cancer and mental health issues in later life.
Best Beginnings works to reduce child health inequalities by creating innovative, collaborative and evidence-based resources for families and healthcare professionals, helping to give every baby in the UK the healthiest start in life.
Best Beginnings aims to:
- Increase public awareness of the health issues affecting mothers and children by working collaboratively with health professionals, other charities and policy makers.
- Change and challenge attitudes and behaviours by overcoming the prejudices and misconceptions that foster inequalities in child health care.
- Promote equal access to health services for families with babies, particularly targeting those experiencing the worst inequalities and empowering people who find it difficult to access support.
- Create pioneering, evidence-based resources for families and healthcare professionals, to ensure parents have the information and support needed to make choices that improve their children’s health.
