Speakup Self Advocacy Limited

Speakup is a lively and unique organisation run by and for people with learning disabilities and/or autism, some of whom have enduring mental health issues. Passionate about employment and accessible information for all, we work together with our inclusion workers who are teachers and media engineers. We value friendship and support people to speak up and teach skills using circles of support, so that people live independent, full and valued lives.

  • Mission statement

    Our Mission Is to educate, enable and empower people with learning disabilities and/or autism, some of whom have enduring mental health issues who are some of the most disadvantaged and marginalised people in society, to enable them to lead fully inclusive, independent, healthy and nurtured lives; bringing real improvements to our community of interest, and to the lives of their family carers who may also struggle to cope.

    Our Vision
    Our vision is to see everyone living in a fully inclusive society where everyone is treated and educated equally, and with respect and dignity. We promote this philosophy by including people with learning disabilities and/or autism in everything we do, enabling voices to be heard and inclusion to happen.

    As part of our educational programme we uniquely produce accessible information to skill and support people to make decisions, choices and understand issues that are most important in their lives. This accessible information work also creates rare employment and sessional work for these marginalised people the employment rate of those with learning disabilities continues to drop and currently stands at just 6% in England.

    Our organisation is particularly effective because we promote leadership and self-empowerment by supporting people who use services and their families

  • Aims

    Speakup Self Advocacy Limited aims to:

    • Educate people with learning disabilities/ and or autism some of whom have enduring mental health issues in self-advocacy and vital life skills to promote leadership and independence.
    • Create employment opportunities for people with learning disabilities/ and or autism and others.
    • Teach people with learning disabilities/ and or autism to speak to other groups and train professionals in how to communicate with people with learning disabilities.
    • Support people to speak up for themselves , create circles of support for friendship , defeating social isolation.
    • Provide advice and make information available in a form which everyone can understand.
