Sylva Foundation

The Sylva Foundation is a charity aiming to revive Britain's wood culture. Our innovative work is helping woodlands thrive ecologically and economically for the benefit of everyone.

Founded 2009

  • Mission statement

A small charity with a reputation for innovation and making big change happen, Sylva works across Britain to ensure an enduring future for our trees and forests.

Formed in 2008, Sylva has supported hard-hitting research into the sustainability of our forests, undertaken national public exhibitions to communicate the importance of trees and forests to modern society, and made a real impact on the health and productivity of thousands of forests across the country.

Sylva has gained a reputation for being innovative. We introduced the concept of a wood culture , now embedded in government policy for England and the Grown in Britain movement. We pioneered corporate social responsibility investment in forestry for the benefit of everyone. One of our most recent major new projects, funded by the EU, is to develop a trading platform for ecosystem services in partnership with the University of Oxford.
