Headway Arts - People - Inclusion

"Headway Arts opened its doors when all the others were closed. "

Headway Arts aims to promote social inclusion through the arts. The arts are a powerful medium through which ideas can be generated and issues explored which encapsulates the concept of ‘participation’ in its most comprehensive sense: engaging with the community and facilitating its members so their needs can be explored and accommodated and their naturally rich and diverse creativity can be realised, developed and expressed. It’s a simple yet effective approach, based on mutual respect, valuing people and a ‘formal informality’ which overlays an inbuilt structure of identifying the needs of the individual whilst working together as a group.
The arts are a powerful medium through which ideas can be expressed and experiences communicated. Self-awareness, self-confidence and personal discovery can all be generated through participation in arts activities. The emphasis on the creative learning process and the commitment of those at Headway Arts to prioritise the work of its participants over its artists leads to extraordinary and high quality artistic products. This work, by both Headway itself and the communities it serves, deserves to be recognised and valued.
