Charity information

Established in 1996, Bedford Open Door provides a support service that offers free, confidential counseling to vulnerable young people aged between 13 and 25 with psychological problems amenable to therapy. A dedicated team of professional volunteer counselors provide beneficiaries with resources and the ability to deal with their distress. The project is currently open from Monday to Thursday with a Saturday morning drop-in service. All volunteers and those working with children are CRB checked and a Child Protection Policy is in place. Providing excellent value for money at £60,000 per annum, there are currently four paid, permanent, part-time employees; a Project Manager, Counseling Coordinator, Reception Coordinator and Administrator/Fundraiser.

The service contributes to the health of society as young people find their way through distress to become better adjusted and integrated members of their communities. It makes an important difference to individuals, families and to the local economy by annually helping in excess of 140 sustain or return to education, training or work.
