Chiltern Open Air Museum

Chiltern Open Air Museum is a charity and an independent Museum, which rescues historic buildings from around the Chilterns area and re-erects them in a typical Chilterns landscape on the Museum site. The Museum attracts around 40 000 visitors of all ages each year, including 10 000 school children. At present, there are 33 vernacular buildings on display and the Museum holds a further 15 buildings of architectural and cultural importance in store.

The Museum is also an important and award-winning centre of lifelong learning, attracting thousands of school children each year, as well as adult learners; providing them with exciting heritage experiences. The Museum has recently received two national awards for Excellence in Heritage Education including our Fourth Sandford Award and the Learning Outside the Classroom badge from the government.
