English Trust for European Education

A charity to foster the ideal of multiliteracy in European language and support European education.

Founded 2008

  • Mission statement

We were created three years ago to advance multilingual education for the public benefit by supporting the establishment and development of schools and curricular programmes in England that will advance such education; by advancing the education of persons working in schools or any other institutions or services, or working otherwise in the field of education, to advance multilingual education; by promoting good practice in the training and education of teachers for multilingual education; by disseminating information and recommendations on good practice in the above field.

In a large and multicultural Europe the teaching and active use of languages across the curriculum in school life is a vital tool towards common understanding. For children from bilingual backgrounds, mother tongue teaching provides an essential link to their home. When children are able to learn three or more European languages, their horizons are expanded and they can become biliterate. If we are to become a more successful and prosperous globally competitive economic region, the European communities must invest in the European dimension by fostering multicultural education and cooperation at grassroots level. ETEE Trustees are committed to a bottom-up approach to European education.
