71st Reading (Anderson) Scout Troop

71st Reading (Anderson) Scout Troop is an organisation for children and young people between 6 and 18 years, comprising Beavers (6-9 yrs), Cubs (8-10 yrs), Sea Scouts (10-14 yrs) and RDG (14-18 yrs). The aims of the organisation are to provide good quality youth work which is fun to engage with and promote growth and development of the young people in all areas. We aim to help young people achieve their full physical, intellectual, social and spiritual potential as individuals, as responsible citizens and as members of their local, national and international communities. This is done through the implementation of a wide and varied programme that embraces new experiences, exploring the outdoors, teamwork and taking responsibility. The programme includes development in six areas: body, mind, faith and beliefs, relationships, community and surroundings. All groups are open to both boys and girls, regardless of their personal circumstances. The organisation is inclusive of all cultures and ethnic backgrounds and of all faiths and none. There is a positive policy to include those disadvantaged through challenging circumstances and disability. We have several members with minor learning disabilities and a couple with severe physical disabilities. Those of all ethnic origins are encouraged to be part of the group and we strive to be inclusive of the whole family, not just the child. This is a thriving organisation within the community as demonstrated by the lengthy waiting lists to join each group. We have over 100 members at present.
