  • Mission statement

We are the leading UK charity for (multiple sclerosis) MS, representing 32,000 members and 269 volunteer-run groups across the country. Our vision is a world free from the effects of MS. Our mission is to enable everyone with MS to realise their full potential, and secure the care and support they need.

The MS Society provides a range of front line services designed to empower and support people affected by MS, to help them maintain their independence and quality of life, and reduce social exclusion. These services include:
    • Financial assistance through our Grants programme, which enables people with MS and their carers to purchase vital equipment and living aids, such as home adaptations, wheelchairs and scooters.
    • World-class information and support, with the MS Library providing free access to publications on symptoms, treatments and practical issues, as well as information for carers, young people and MS professionals.
    • Emotional and peer support through our Freephone Helpline and via 270 volunteer-led local support groups across the UK.
    • Campaigning and influencing local and national policy to ensure the needs of people with MS are represented.

We’re also the biggest charitable funder of MS research in Europe. Our number one goal is to ensure that people with MS have access to effective treatments that can slow, stop or reverse the accumulation of disability, and we’re committed towards driving progress towards this.

Together we’re strong enough to stop MS.

  • Aims

The Multiple Sclerosis Society of Great Britain and Northern Ireland aims to:

    • Use our influence (internationally, nationally and locally) to improve access to effective treatments, as well as provide information and support to help patients make the right decisions for them.
    • Ensure people with MS, their families and carers, have access to care and support that is responsive to their needs, and recognises them as equal partners in their care.
    • Prevent MS by investing in research, so that fewer people will develop it and people with MS will have access to effective treatments that can slow, stop or reverse the accumulation of disability.
    • Ensure people with MS have access to the quality information they need, when and how it suits them - whilst also increasing awareness and understanding of MS amongst the general public.
    • Support families and carers, by enabling them to access the relevant information and support they need, whilst also influencing health and social care professionals to provide quality services.
