  • Mission statement

The Institute of Cancer Research (ICR) is one of the world’s most influential cancer research institutes. We are passionate about our mission to make the discoveries that defeat cancer. We have already changed millions of lives, but we will not stop until we have achieved our mission.

Cancer is the UK’s biggest killer and it continues to claim around 160,000 lives every year. We now know that the main reason cancer is so difficult to treat is that it is enormously complex, and can adapt and evolve as its environment changes - and in response to treatment.

Our vision is to overcome the challenges posed by cancer’s complexity, adaptability and evolution through scientific and clinical excellence, innovation and partnership.
