Starehe UK

The Starehe Centres are the only secondary schools in Kenya offering bright boys and girls from highly disadvantaged backgrounds a first-class education and a home - free of charge.

Founded 1994

  • Mission statement

'StareheFuture' is a major £10 million-appeal in aid of Starehe Boys’ Centre and Starehe Girls’ Centre, based in Nairobi, Kenya.

Starehe is a household name in Kenya, providing the only secondary schools in the country to offer a first-class education and home to students, free of charge. So for hundreds of bright, disadvantaged young Kenyans, a free place at Starehe represents their only hope of a life-changing opportunity – and a passport out of poverty.

The aim of the StareheFuture appeal is to assist Starehe as it supports bright but impoverished children, educates them to an exceptionally high standard and changes the face of Kenya by ensuring that leadership and service values are woven into society at every level.

This will be achieved through a combination of funding capital needs and bursaries.

Whilst we appreciate that £10 million is a substantial target to aim for, Starehe’s motto Natulenge Juu means ‘let us aim high’, and if the boys and girls at Starehe can overcome their circumstances and achieve such excellent results, we’re confident that - with the right people on board - we can also succeed.

Our wish is for... A new generation of Kenyan leaders to emerge from Starehe school with a first-class education and the mission to end disadvantage and poverty.
