  • Mission statement

    Founded in 1882, the Royal College of Music trains gifted musicians from all over the world for international careers as performers, conductors, composers, and other significant leadership roles within the arts. Many of our graduates are at the very forefront of the international music scene. Our professors are musicians with worldwide reputations, accustomed to working with the most talented students of each generation to unlock their artistic potential.

    Distinguished visiting musicians include: Bernard Haitink, Alfred Brendel, Lang Lang, Sir Thomas Allen, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Barry Douglas, Pinchas Zuckerman, John Lill, Sir Roger Norrington and Sarah Connolly among many others.

    Symphony performances at the RCM take place in our Grade II listed Amaryllis Fleming Concert Hall, while three operas a year are staged in the Benjamin Britten Theatre which is the most recent purpose-built opera theatre in London.

    With over 800 students from more than 60 countries studying at undergraduate, masters or doctoral level, the RCM is a community of talented and open-minded musicians where excellence, individuality, creativity and diversity are prized. Through its teachers - renowned musicians who perform, compose, write and research - an unparalleled range of artistic and commercial collaborations are forged, ensuring that RCM musicians connect effectively with a fast-changing profession.
