  • Mission statement

The Donmar Warehouse is a 251 seat subsidised theatre in the heart of London’s West End. A theatre adored by actors, directors and audiences alike, the Donmar is marked out by the consistent quality of our work and the unique and intimate dynamic of our central London space.
Under the dynamic Artistic Directorship of Josie Rourke we aim to maintain our renown as a producer of exceptional, world-class theatre productions, whilst ensuring that as wide an audience as possible can have access to the work on our stage. We believe that theatre thrives from a broad, engaged audience and that is our responsibility to help newcomers to easily find their way in.
The Donmar’s programming continues to marry our traditional excellence with contemporary edge, offering a range of work that surprises, provokes and entertains.
We aim to work with the best artists, both emerging and established, and provide an environment in which they are supported to create excellent, energised and important theatre for today. This ranges from bold reinterpretations of the classical canon to new work of contemporary relevance and vitality.
Our ability to convene a cultural conversation: around a playwright, a theme, an idea, an actor is at the heart of our programming. It’s also at the centre of our commissioning of plays and projects. Our ambition is to be a key player in a major exploration of how theatre re-imagines and communicates big ideas affecting the whole of society.
