Wesley Community Furniture

We are a frontline, community-based Furniture Reuse charity that strives to use the commitment, enterprise and hard work of local people to benefit people in hardship: reducing waste, helping people.

Founded 1993

  • Mission statement

“To work in partnership with others to provide furniture and other household items at the lowest possible prices to those in need in Manchester, to further relieve poverty by providing jobs, volunteering and training opportunities, and to recycle and reuse as much of the material we receive as possible. ”

Wesley Community Furniture has been running an essential service in Greater Manchester, in one form or other, since 1993, providing people in need with household items that are donated to us. Wesley’s mission is to use the initiative, hard work and creativity of local people to help sustain inner-city communities. Largely volunteer-run, we are keen to attract funding towards a self-sustaining future, and to that end we are looking for ways to fund longer-term buildings [which may just be by peppercorn/below market rent lease agreements - saving landlords business rates bills in the process].

In addition, we would also be delighted to hear from any individual/company who would like to sponsor our 'Homestarter' referral furniture packages; these we provide to referrred clients who are in some of the very direst of circumstances. But, in a climate of rising costs, the provision of these packages of items often costs us dear; any fee provided by the client/client organisation is often insufficient to fully recoup all the costs associated with the provision of the service.

  • Aims

    Wesley Community Furniture aims to:

    • A third major aim of the charity is to make an impact on landfill use: by reusing & recycling peoples’ unwanted household items we redirect in excess of 200 tonnes of material every year.
    • The primary aim of Wesley Community Furniture is to provide household goods to people in need. Clients either come off the street or are referred by agencies. Collection and delivery of goods is free.
    • The second aim is concerned with the provision of jobs, volunteering and training opportunities; takings from the shop cover paid staff, volunteer, training, building, and vehicle costs.
