Knutsford Heritage Centre

Knutsford Heritage Centre aims to protect, present and promote Knutsford's rich and diverse heritage for the benefit of its residents and visitors.

Founded 1986

  • Mission statement

The Knutsford Millennium Tapestry was created between 1997 and 2001 to celebrate Knutsford in the Millennium year. This community project details all walks of life in Knutsford and is the work of over 3,000 members of the local community. Each road, street and lane can be seen on the tapestry along with over 500 everyday scenes. The three panels measure 12 metres in total, using 53 metres of canvas, 52 miles of wool and 150 needles were used in its creation.
Val Bryant, Trustee said “As custodians of such an important part of Knutsford’s heritage, it is a privilege to be trusted with the responsibility of ensuring it is preserved for future generations to enjoy”.
When the tapestry returns to a brand new state of the art cabinet will be waiting. At a cost of over £20,000 the new cabinets will be completely sealed and re-framed and will act as a deterrent to the ever present threat of the carpet beetle.
