Dance UK

Dance UK is the national voice for dance. On behalf of its members and the wider dance sector Dance UK aims to improve the conditions in which dance is created, performed and experienced.

Founded 1982

  • Mission statement

    The organisation has over 1200 individual members including dancers, teachers, students, choreographers, managers and dance medics and scientists, and around 250 corporate members including the leading dance companies, theatres and vocational colleges, ranging from Sadler’s Wells and the Royal Ballet Company to Diversions the Dance Company of Wales and the Foundation for Community Dance.

    Dance UK develops and facilitates networks for the profession; nurtures and encourages career development; provides information and guidance for the public and professionals; and works to relieve poverty amongst dancers and their dependents. Dance UK is the lead advocacy and lobbying body representing the dance industry to government and to funding bodies in all its diverse and dynamic forms.

    Dance UK's Healthier Dancer Programme is a worldwide leader in the promotion of dancers' health and well-being, dance medicine and science. Since 1990 it has undertaken a programme of awareness raising and education for all those involved in dance, from grass roots to elite, providing information and advice, and undertaking and facilitating research that leads to a better understanding of the relationship between dance and health and the prevention of dance injuries.
