Shropshire RCC

We’re a Shropshire charity, supporting local people disadvantaged by living in a very sparsely populated rural county: limited facilities, an aging population and very little public transport.

Our many projects focus on self-help and making Shropshire a great place for everyone to live: keeping older, isolated people healthy, well and independent ; loan of mopeds to get to work; Peer support for hearing aid users; Social groups for isolated people; volunteer visits for people in care homes

Founded 1961

  • Mission statement

Shropshire RCC is a local charity committed to making Shropshire a great place to live for everyone, no matter what challenges they face

Since 1961 we have been working with local people to develop and deliver practical solutions to rural problems. Our work focuses on older people and we want to reduce the disadvantages they face living in a rural area, like poor access to services and support, and greater vulnerability through isolation, loneliness, poverty, poor health, disability or caring responsibilities.

  • Aims

    Shropshire RCC aims to:

    • To support older and vulnerable people to enable them to stay fit, healthy, independent, and active in their local community
    • To support unemployed people to access work and training through assistance with transport where no public transport exists
    • To support other charities and voluntary organisations and enable them to access the resources they need to deliver services which improve the quality of life in the wider community
    • To deliver services which support development and sustainability in rural areas
    • To champion the needs to rural areas with policy makers and funders
