Founded 1870

  • Mission statement

By mobilising the power of humanity we will help to build a world in which individuals and communities have the power to withstand or recover from natural and man-made emergencies, and in which those who are most vulnerable receive the help they need.

  • Aims

    British Red Cross aims to:

    • Vulnerable individuals will be better able to withstand and recover from a health or social care crisis, and more able to live with dignity and as independently as possible.
    • The humanitarian impact of crises and disasters will be reduced. Individuals will be more likely to act to support, influence and build community resilience.
    • Individuals and communities can better withstand and recover from crises, emergencies and disasters.
    • The Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement will have increased impact as the leading humanitarian actor meeting the needs of the most vulnerable.
