The Hearing Conservation Council

The Hearing Conservation Council was created to work on avoiding preventable hearing impairment in the developing world. We have spent a small part of our funds on research in the UK, but most of our funding has been in Cambodia and Malawi, where we are funding capacity development programmes.

In Cambodia, we have provided substantial funding for a UK-trained Audiologist to establish outreach programmes for treating the hearing impaired in remote areas of the country, and especially for training local staff to work with the hearing impaired. In Malawi, we are providing support for the first Malawian ENT surgeon, for whom we have trained two clinical officers in Kenya, who are now supporting him in his work.
