Edinburgh International Film Festival Council

Founded in 1947, the Edinburgh International Film Festival has, since then, devoted itself to discovering and promoting the very best in international cinema - and to embrace, celebrate and debate changes and developments in the global film industry. Held over a 12 day period every June, it presents the audience with an enlightening programme of films, of all shapes and sizes, drawn from every corner of the earth and from every facet of the artistic imagination. Intimate in its scale, ambitious in its scope, and fuelled by pure passion for cinema in all its manifestations, EIFF seeks to expose the cutting edge of new film talent, in a setting steeped in history. EIFF’s mission is to be the world’s leading film festival of discovery.

There are over 100 feature film premieres, live events, workshops, retrospectives, short films, outdoor screenings, education programmes, masterclasses and opportunities to meet filmmakers and discuss their work. Funded by public grants, sponsorship and earned income, EIFF also relies on charitable giving to enable its programme of education and community events to take place and to offer a placement opportunity to 150 volunteers every year.
