Amigos Worldwide

Working with local partners in Uganda we aim to eradicate poverty through education and training. Our vision is to see poor and marginalised people live with dignity, equality and freedom.

Founded 2000

  • Mission statement

We work with people living in extreme poverty including orphans, former child soldiers and those affected by HIV.

Our approach to ending poverty is unique: a powerful mix of education, vocational training, conservation farming and emotional support is changing the future for thousands of Ugandan families.

Our vision is for a confident and thriving Uganda where no one goes to bed hungry. Our mission is to give families the hope and the means to live off their own land and set up small businesses to revolutionise their futures. Last year Amigos touched over 9600 lives.

We work in three main areas:

    1) Kira Farm Development Centre - a centre where 40 vulnerable young people receive training in conservation farming and vocational skills annually
    2) Thriving community projects provide training in conservation farming, WASH, appropriate technologies, and conflict resolution; alongside microfinance and wells
    3) Our Child Sponsorship program enables over 340 children to go to school.

We believe everyone can be helped, whatever age, gender, tribe, faith or history. We believe poverty isn’t just material. Many believe the future is hopeless - we aim to restore hope. We believe skills must be passed on: everyone Amigos invests in is expected to invest in others by passing on the skills they have learnt to build new lives free from poverty and hunger. We are proud that our team in Uganda is made up entirely of Ugandans - we are directed by the people we seek to help.
