Become provides help, support and advice so that children in care and young care leavers can take control of their lives and unleash their potential.
To provide help, support and advice to children in care and young care leavers, so that they can take control of their lives and unleash their potential. At Become, across all our programmes of work, staff build young people's emotional wellbeing, resilience and self-worth, to help them live powerfully and purposefully.
Our services include a free advice service and targeted magazines for children and young people in care, and one-to-one coaching sessions for young care leavers.
In partnership with young people with experience of care, we work to improve the system by ensuring that their voices and perspectives shape policy and service provision.
With the right support and people who believe in them, we know that even the lives of the most vulnerable and traumatised children and young people can be turned around. We help young people move towards becoming the person they want to be - towards a life well lived.
Become aims to:
- To improve the emotional wellbeing of young care leavers, with a particular focus on developing resilience, self-belief, social capital and aspiration.
- To improve the educational outcomes of children in care in the UK and to narrow the gap between their educational attainment and those of their peers.
- To identify, highlight and seek to remedy injustices in the experiences of children in care and young care leavers, with a particular focus on their legal rights and entitlements.
