Aberdeen International Youth Festival

Aberdeen International Youth Festival (AIYF) is a multi- arts event which takes place annually in Aberdeen and the North East region of Scotland. Running since 1973, the festival began as an orchestral event, and has diversified in recent years to become a performing arts festival which includes a wide range of art-forms including dance, theatre, opera and contemporary, jazz, classical and traditional music.

Founded 1973

  • Mission statement

Young people up to age 25 travel from around the world to perform at Aberdeen International Youth Festival, and the event is also committed to supporting emerging talent from Scotland and the rest of the UK.

As well as gala shows and concerts in Aberdeen’s most celebrated venues, the festival prides itself on offering intimate classical and chamber music performances through the ‘Up Close & Musical’ concert series.

The Extended Festival programme takes shows to towns and villages across the North East. From Aberdeenshire to Angus and Moray, the young artists take their shows to churches, town halls and community venues to perform to local people.

As well as the performances themselves, AIYF prides itself on delivering a number of summer education courses for young people, including the ‘Dance Lab’ and the AIYF ‘Traditional Music School. ’ Participants have the opportunity to work with and learn from a number of professional tutors from across Scotland.

At AIYF, we aim to ensure that both the performers and audiences have a positive and enriching experience at the festival. Our hope is that AIYF will continue to inspire young people within their chosen art-form, and encourage the next generation.
