Ubuntu Education Fund

Ubuntu Education Fund is a non-profit organisation that works for and with the community in the townships of Port Elizabeth, South Africa. Ubuntu provides orphaned and vulnerable children access to the world of higher education and work through essential health and educational resources.

In 1999 two men, Jacob Lief and Malizole “Banks” Gwaxula, founded Ubuntu on the philosophy of ubuntu; a universal bond of sharing that connects all of humanity—I am because you are. With the goal of transforming the lives of the children of Port Elizabeth, South Africa Ubuntu was started with a simple idea and today has over 80 full time staff in South Africa with fundraising offices in London and New York. To date, Ubuntu has placed over 130 students at universities across South Africa.
