CASS - The Young Carers Project

'To promote the welfare and well being of young carers, and their families, living in Staffordshire County (excluding Newcastle & Staffs Moorlands).

Young Carers are children and young people under the age of 18 (average age 12, youngest 6yrs) who are providing a regular and substantial level of care to a family member, commonly a parent often within a single parent environment, because the family member suffers from a chronic / terminal illness / disability, mental health problem, substance misuse issue, HIV / AIDS.

We provide information, guidance, signposting, emotional support and opportunities for young carers to take a safe and stimulating break from caring where experiences and concerns can be shared with trained staff and other young carers. Our main aim is to help young carers to combat the deficit legacy young caring can leave and to off-set the negative impacts of coping alone with a significant caring role. We strive to do this for as many young carers as possible whilst offering them a 'slice of childhood'.

Young carers are children and young people who are hidden, they are not the young people entering our justice system, making a public nuisance of themselves on our streets or in our educational establishments - they are generally hard working caring children and young people who help to save our UK health and social care services £57. 4 Billion every year! Please help us to support them - help us make sure they don't remain hidden.
