The Benefits Advice Shop

To ensure that no-one loses out financially through ignorance, lack of knowledge, no access to advice in rural areas, disabilty or social exclusion.
That no person is discriminated against through race, gender, sex, religion, age, disability, social exclusion, creed or dress.
We provide a free, specialist, independant advice, advocacy and representation service to any person who contacts BAS or is referred to us.
We have no boundaries, no restrictions, no-one is ever refused our free service.
BAS is a totally independant charity set-up in April 1988, by the community for the community, we are also a Company Limited by Guarantee (3828857) and have an elected volunteer management committee, 14 at present, all local members of the public, we have an elected Chairman, Treasurer and Secretary.
We provide advice on every aspect of welfare benefits, redundancies, back to work benefits, affordable warmth, budgeting/ banking, housing. We represent clients at Social Security Appeals Tribunals and take them as far as the Commissioners in London
We have held a Legal Services Commission Franchise since its conception in Wales in 1995/96, where our advice work is audited annually, we also have an independant accountant, who prepares our accounts and attends our management committee every 3 months.
