Charity information

FareShare South West

At FareShare South West we believe that no good food should go to waste. We save over 200 tonnes per year of quality, tasty in-date food that is destined for waste and redistribute it to our charity members. They then transform it into delicious, nutritious meals for vulnerable people! As part of FareShare UK, we are on a mission to tackle food waste and food poverty head-on.

Founded 2007

  • Mission statement

The primary activity of FareShare South West is to redistribute surplus food from the food industry to organisations working with vulnerable people, via the FareShare South West project. Through our work, local organisations or community groups such as hostels and day-centres have access to good quality food for their clients, and the food industry has a socially responsible alternative to the dumping of good food onto already over-filled landfill sites.

A second equally important activity of FareShare South West is to recruit and train volunteers, both from the population at large and from the vulnerable communities themselves. Volunteers are given the opportunity to gain skills and self-esteem and thus enhance their employability for the future.

  • Aims

    FareShare South West aims to:

    • To combat food poverty in the South West through distributing quality food to over 140 charities and community groups.
    • To combat food waste by saving surplus food from the food industry that is destined for waste and diverting it to feed people in need.
    • To support FareShare South West volunteers through training and vocational support.
