The Calvert Trust, Exmoor is a haven where disabled people all ages and all abilities take part in outdoor adventure that develops new skills and raises self-esteem.

Founded 1996

  • Mission statement

We have 14 years’ experience of delivering challenging outdoor activities for disabled people. All of our activities are “on-site” and we have exclusive use of the adjacent reservoir for sailing, canoeing and kayaking and easy access to the surrounding forest trails. As well as “on-water” activities, visitors can take part in horsehorse riding, carriage driving, abseiling, crate-stack, zip wire, climbing, archery, bush-craft and cycling. Our well qualified and uniquely experienced team of instructors specialise in working with people who have sensory, physical and learning disabilities. As well as having fun and starting new friendships, our visitors return to their day to day lives empowered to do something new.
Last year we provided activity breaks for 3,396 residential and 253 day visitors at our 55 bed centre on the edge of Exmoor National Park. Half were able bodied family members, group leaders or carers accompanying disabled visitors. Among our disabled visitors, 46% came to us as part of group e. G. A disability charity such as The Not Forgottens (injured armed forces) or Scope, 25% school groups, 11% families, and 13% as assisted individuals. 26% reported to be physically disabled, 31% learning disabled, 12% autistic and the remainder reported a range of other specific difficulties and disabilities.
