Churches Housing Aid Society

We help homeless and poorly housed people to resolve housing issues and thereby improve their quality of life.

Founded 1965

  • Mission statement

We are a small independent charity that has been working in the heart of inner-city Bristol since 1965. We believe that a home is a basic human right and that decent housing is central to the development of individuals, households and society as a whole. Churches Housing Aid Society (CHAS) is therefore working to bring about a better housed society, with particular focus on those in the greatest need. Our service users are mainly from the most vulnerable and marginalized sections of society.

We work primarily with people who are either suddenly or imminently facing homelessness or those in poor/unsafe housing, including single people and families, refugees, people with physical and/or mental health disabilities, people escaping a chaotic lifestyle or leaving prison/drug rehabilitation etc. The range of problems CHAS (Bristol) advises on is wide-ranging and includes homelessness, debt, landlord and tenant problems, disrepair and poor housing conditions, overcrowding, relationship breakdown, anti-social behaviour, racial and other types of harassment.

  • Aims

Churches Housing Aid Society aims to:

    • To provide free, independent and confidential advice, support and advocacy to anyone in housing need on housing and housing-related matters.
