The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust

The Shakespeare Birthplace Trust based in Stratford-upon-Avon was founded 160 years ago as an independent charity with 3 core aims: to promote worldwide the works of William Shakespeare; to maintain and provide access to the 5 houses, including the Birthplace, associated with Shakespeare in Stratford; to provide and maintain a library and archive relating to Shakespeare.
Today the SBT welcomes over 700,000 visitors every year to its properties and cares for Europe's largest collections of Shakespeare-related materials including the archive of the Royal Shakespeare Company. The Learning Department provides service for a wide range of users inclduing 22,000 students from schools, colleges and universities and over 5,000 readers in the reading room as well as numerous researchers worldwide.
Its vision is to lead the world's enjoyment and understanding of Shakespeare's works, life and times.
