Leeds Lieder+

"... One of the most exuberant and far-reaching festivals of art-song in the UK. " Hilary Finch: The Times, October 2009

Leeds Lieder+ is the brainchild of Jane Anthony, and was founded by a partnership of individuals and Leeds College of Music in 2004 to promote the understanding, appreciation, composition and performance of art song. The inaugural festival took place in October 2005. Leeds Lieder+ is now a firmly established highlight on the national cultural calendar and is held every two years. The next festival will take place from Friday 7 - Sunday 9 October 2011 with Malcolm Martineau as Artistic Director. Artists include Dame Felicity Lott and Florian Boesch.

Song is a universal and potent means of communication. It has the power to touch everyone; and it speaks to our deepest selves. Leeds Lieder+ aims to introduce this magnificent music to an ever wider audience, inspire successive generations of singers and musicians, help sustain the tradition of song writing by commissioning new works, and to reach out to young people, and people with and without disabilities, through an imaginative and enterprising programme of education projects.
