The National Rheumatoid Arthritis Society is the only UK patient led charity focusing on supporting people living with rheumatoid arthritis, a chronic, incurable and progressive auto-immune disease.

Founded 2001

  • Mission statement

Our vision is a better life for people affected by rheumatoid arthritis.

Our mission is to help and support people affected by rheumatoid arthritis and their healthcare professionals by:

    • Providing information, education, support and advocacy
    • Raising public awareness of rheumatoid arthritis
    • Raising the priority of rheumatoid arthritis with politicians and policy makers
    • Campaigning for equal access to good care and services for all
    • Facilitating networking and encouraging self-management
    • Raising NRAS funds to work towards our vision

We are a national charity supporting people with RA, a disabling, long term disease for which there is no cure. We provide information, support, help and advocacy and we campaign. We are a patient led, disease specific charity offering multiple support resources.

We exist because RA forces the body’s immune system to attack its own tissues. It causes swelling, extreme fatigue, stiffness and irreversible damage to the cartilage and bone around the joints. RA can cause the joint to need replacement or to be permanently pinned in situ, rendering it completely immobile. At its most intense it can affect the whole body including the internal organs such as the lungs, heart and eyes leading to an increased risk of heart attacks and strokes, lung disease or damage to sight.

Rheumatoid arthritis encompasses a range of issues including: social exclusion, isolation, disability and financial concern and communication barriers within the family.

  • Aims
