The Design Museum is the world’s leading museum devoted to contemporary design and architecture, shaping the public’s appreciation and understanding of design in every form.
Through its exhibitions, educational programme, collections, online presence and publishing programme, The Design Museum aims to provide a critical insight into the forces driving change in today’s world.
In 2016 the Design Museum is embarking on an ambitious move from its current home at Shad Thames to the former Commonwealth Institute building in Kensington.
The Design Museum in Kensington will become the world’s foremost museum dedicated to contemporary design and architecture, a creative hub at the centre of debate about design and its significant importance for the UK’s economy.
The move to Kensington will allow us to create a new kind of cultural institution with genuine worldwide reach that will raise the profile of contemporary industrial design and architecture, reinforcing London’s position as a global hub for nurturing new talent and championing the creative industries.
