Coniston Mountain Rescue Team

Formed in 1947, the first civilian mountain rescue team in Britain. Established to rescue distressed persons in the mountain environment most particularly in places where the uniformed public rescue services cannot reach. These locations include high mountains, rock faces and disused mines. In addition, the team supports the police whenever asked in all situations including urban and semi urban searches for missing persons especially the elderly and depressed, also in flood situations to rescue trapped persons.

The team is manned entirely by unpaid volunteers.
