art + power

Art + power is an arts agency which brings people together to build creative and inclusive communities. This is achieved by investing in the expertise of disabled and socially excluded artists.

Founded 1998

  • Mission statement

For over 15 years, art + power have supported socially excluded and disabled artists to develop their work in Bristol. We've set out a bold vision of an end to social exclusion through the arts and have worked to make this vision a reality. Our work has won national and international awards, and we invite every individual and group to play their part in creating opportunities for sustainable creative development.

We're a membership organisation, open to all who share our values in creating a service to a great benefit of the community. Our practice is based on building independence and enabling individuals to achieve full and equal participation in the arts, including writing, music and performance.

At art + power, we believe firmly in the ability of people to effect changes in their lives by using the power of the arts. Some of our projects have included a Professional Arts Support Scheme (a project which acted as a launchpad for the careers of disabled artists and actors), creative coaching (providing support and opportunities for disabled artists) and a writers' group (providing a space for writers with learning difficulties to practice their creative work and receive feedback).

We're now looking to the future, developing more events and encouraging disabled and socially excluded artists to create and run their own projects. With your help, we can continue our valuable work and work towards a creative and inclusive society providing support for those who need it.
