Karibuni is dynamic. It raises awareness and money to support projects working in Kenya with children from the streets and in the slums in situations of urban and rural poverty, providing food, education, health care and love.
The Trust raises awareness of the plight of children living in abject poverty in rural and urban areas on the streets and in the slums in Kenya, and raises money to help to meet those needs. The children are supported through feeding programmes; education from Nursery to College/University/Vocational Training; health care; provision of uniforms and play clothes; micro-finance support for carers; a home when necessary.
The fourteen projects (1,200 children plus) supported are all initiated and run by Kenyans and there is a close relationship through e-mail and annual visits by Trustees and work groups who work alongside and under the direction of local people, and whenever possible stay in local homes. All visits are at participants own expense.
Karibuni Children aims to:
- To continue the feeding programmes in all the projects. Most of the children do not get any food except in the projects, arriving in the morning very hungry and ready for their porridge
- To further develop our new sponsorship scheme for young people entering tertiary education at the end of secondary school.
- To extend our programme of enabling families to become self-supporting through mutual lending programmes.
