Charity information

The Willow Tree Centre (Bristol)

The Willow Tree Centre is a pregnancy crisis centre in Yate, just north of Bristol. We provide free, unbiased and confidential care, support and information for women and their partners with an unplanned or unexpected pregnancy.

We also provide care and counselling after miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, still-birth or neonatal death and following an abortion.

All our practitioners are specially trained and recognise the need to be impartial and unbiased. Clients contact us themselves or may be referred by a health professional or other contact.

We recognise the need to provide education to enable young people to become more aware of the consequences of their sexual behaviour and thus prevent crisis pregnancies. We work in schools, colleges and youth groups -providing a tailored programme of education relevant to the young people concerned. Working from the understanding that many issues confronting young people stem from low self-esteem, the education team looks at media influences, peer pressure, friendship issues and self image as well as drug and alcohol abuse, sexually transmitted infections, contraception and teenage pregnancy.

Our "education for life" programme includes the use of ten "virtual babies"and is specially produced to meet the needs of the group - be it in a classroom, pupil referral unit or youth group. We are very aware that this sort of education needs to be relevant to young men as well as young women and so we work in partnership with existing support groups and use teenage parents as peer educators.

We are trained to run fpa produced courses (speakeasy) to enable and equip parents to talk to their children (of all ages) about sexual health and behaviour and relationships.

All our support and education work is offered to people with learning difficulties. We work with social workers, support groups and special schools to provide specifically tailored help. Support and education around pregnancy and separation from baby, sexual health and behaviour, baby care and development.

We work in partnership with Eastwood Park women's prison to provide support and education to women there.
