Licking Lassa Fever - health education & hygiene for all - www. Licking-lassa-fever. Org. Uk

A project in partnership with the World Health Organisation (Strategic partner) and the Red Cross/Red Crescent Movement (Implementation partner) to stop so many people suffering and dying from Lassa Fever in Sierra Leone - about 3,000 deaths per year in Sierra Leone with 30% of survivors becoming deaf.

Lassa Fever is a viral disease that is carried by rats. Infected rats spread the virus by contaminating food and water supplies with their droppings and urine.

How you can help:

* £10 buys food containers and water bottles for one family to keep basic supplies clean and uncontaminated by rats.
* £100 buys tools and seeds for one village, for 100 families, to grow their own food.
* £1000 buys 5 latrines and £2000 buys a well to improve sanitation and hygiene.

These measures will also help to combat other water mediated diseases such as gastroenteritis which is, together with Acute Respiratory Infections, the biggest killer of children aged less than 5 years in Africa.

We do not take personal expenses from the charity.
