Women and Children First UK

Women and Children First works with local organisations promoting a proven approach to reduce the number of women who die in child-birth and the number of children who die in the first month of life.

Founded 2000

  • Mission statement

Women and Children First improves the health and wellbeing of women and children in poor communities, with a particular focus on pregnancy and the first month of life.

Women and Children First ensures that women have a say in the decisions that influence their health. We achieve this through the formation of women’s groups, who work together to prioritise maternal and newborn health problems and identify low-cost solutions. We also work with local healthcare providers to strengthen skills in essential newborn care by training all levels of staff, plus training the trainers. We effect this through collaborating with partner organisations in Bangladesh, Ethiopia, India, Uganda and Malawi.

  • Aims

Women and Children First UK aims to:

    • To improve maternal and child health in poor communities, especially in Asia and Africa
    • To reduce the number of maternal and newborn deaths in poor communities, especially in Asia and Africa
