Sandema Educational Resource Centre

A hundred million children in Africa receive no formal education. Someone unable to speak, read or write the national language is at the mercy of those who can, and is marginalised. Our charity works in the poorest part of Ghana where only 30% of children attend schools, most of them grossly under-resourced in every conceivable way.
Our centre is not a school but a unique, multi-purpose project enabling young people, particularly girls, to raise their achievement levels, understand and change society and confront issues. We work in partnership with a Ghanaian NGO that promotes good governance and access to justice for women and girls by skills-training, capacity-building and sensitising. It runs an AIDS prevention campaign, a public library, literacy classes and remedial classes for secondary school pupils; and works together with local government, SEND Foundation and IbisGhana, all of which aim to improve access to public services and education; finally it runs a community radio station, "Voice to the Voiceless.
