Pod Charitable Trust
Pod Charitable Trust
Pod organizes entertainment for children in hospital. Pod entertainers provide over 2200 shows a year in 150 hospitals and hospices bringing magic, fun and laughter to thousands of sick children.
Pod aims to alleviate the trauma of a hospital stay by sowing the seeds of fun, laughter and feeling better, helping make a hospital stay a more positive experience for sick children.
Pod has a simple formula - we provide specially chosen magicians, musicians, puppeteers and clowns who are sensitive to the needs of sick children to make children happy in hospital. Pod has always believed that whilst our visits can't make children better they can undoubtedly make them FEEL better. It is generally agreed that the mind plays an important part in the healing process and we would like to think that Pod visits make children better that little bit quicker. Feedback from hospitals (and we have had feedback for the last 35 years)indicates that Hospital Play Specialists unanimously believe in Pod's value; they would just like more visits!
By providing access to fun and stimulation which children often need when unwell, Pod aims to aid emotional recovery and rehabilitation. By distracting children from pain and worry, Pod assists personal skills and development. As everyone (children, parents, siblings and staff) join in and have fun together then relationships improve. Finally the warmth a visit generates lasts long after the visit is over and this assists attitude and behavioural change thereby providing a positive memory of a child's stay in hospital.
Pod's long term aim is to provide visits in all hospitals and hospices which admit children.
