Health Improvement Project Zanzibar

Health Improvement Project Zanzibar was established in 2007 with a goal of developing a high quality and trusted health care system on the island of Zanzibar and in doing so, creating a blue print of health care delivery that can then be used in other less economically developed countries.

Founded by two British consultant surgeons who have worked in Zanzibar and Tanzania over the past 20 years, HIPZ has engaged both civil society and government in planning this ambitious work and has a Memorandum of Understanding signed with the government of Zanzibar under which the charity will assume responsibility for redeveloping and equipping the first hospital, Makunduchi Hospital, for a period of ten years. Priority areas for Health Improvement Project Zanzibar are maternal & child health and major communicable diseases.
