Children's Hospice South West

Children’s Hospice South West is a leading provider of palliative care for children with life-limiting and life-threatening conditions with three hospices across the South West region.

Founded 1991

  • Mission statement

Children’s Hospice South West (CHSW) exists to make the most of short and precious lives by working as one to meet the needs of children who are expected to die before adulthood, and their families, through the provision of hospice care in the South West.
CHSW was founded by Eddie Farwell and his late wife Jill in 1991 as a result of their own experiences of having two life-limited children. Jill and Eddie’s aim was to bring specialist care to life-limited children in the South West. Children’s Hospice South West serves families from Bath and North East Somerset, Bristol, parts of Gloucestershire and Wiltshire, Somerset, Devon and Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly; a distance greater than that from London to Liverpool. Regionally, there are over 1,000 families who have a child with a life-limiting condition.
Between our three children’s hospices, Little Bridge House in North Devon which opened in 1995, Charlton Farm in North Somerset which opened in 2007 and Little Harbour in Cornwall which opened in 2011, we provide expert respite, palliative, emergency and end of life care to those children and their families who have to cope with the most difficult of situations.
Our hospices provide a loving and caring environment where life-limited children and their families can focus on just being a family again. When all three of our hospices are fully operational, Children’ Hospice South West will be able to provide care to 500-600 life-limited children and their families each year.
