Buwan Kothi International Trust

Our aim is to assist, through the projects we undertake, in promoting the financial stability, educational fulfilment, physical wellbeing and cultural enrichment of rural communities in Haryana, northern India. The Trust was established in 2006 by Gilly and Debbie Mundy and their friends, to support regeneration projects starting in the district around Buwan Kothi, the isolated village where the couple married, Our major project has been to build a school named in Gilly’s memory, following his sudden death in March 2007 aged only 36.

In 2007-2008, the charity raised over £52,000, all from individual donations, enabling the Gilly Mundy Memorial Community School to open with 180 primary aged children. This is the district’s first ever non-profit school and the pupils are receiving a high quality education that contrasts sharply with the standard offered by government or profit-making private schools. We aim to raise a further £100,000 to add extra classrooms, a science lab and to build a resource centre that is open to local people, ensuring that the school becomes firmly embedded in the community.
