Livingstone Tanzania Trust

Livingstone Tanzania Trust (LTT) works to alleviate poverty in Manyara Region by working hand in hand with local schools and grassroots community organisations to improve the quality of children's education, support smallholder farmers and enterprise groups, and promote the well-being of women and girls.

Founded 2007

  • Mission statement

LTT believes in the power of community to bring about change.

We partner with each community for the long term, committing to evolve as the community does and to offer support until it is no longer needed.

We collaborate with local government schools and grassroots organisations to design and implement sustainable development projects that focus on education and enterprise as the key drivers for change.

Our goal is to work together with communities to build capacity and unlock opportunities, enabling people to realise their potential and improve their quality of life for themselves.

Over 10 years, we have grown from supporting 1 school in 1 community to 10 schools and 6 communities. We have helped to provide an improved educational environment for over 7,300 children, issued microloans to 100 small businesses owners, and trained 230 smallholders in sustainable agricultural techniques.

  • Aims

    Livingstone Tanzania Trust aims to:

    • Improve the quality of education at primary level through the sustainable development of local government schools, leading to improved attendance, achievement and access to secondary school.
    • Improve smallholder farmers' yields and incomes through training programmes and co-operative loans and savings schemes, leading to improved financial resilience and quality of life for the family.
    • Support families to improve their diet by growing fruit, vegetables and greens, and to sell excess crops at local markets. Also support households to understand the link between diet and wellbeing.
    • Support communities to work towards gender equity through a specific programme focused on menstrual health awareness and through offering microloans and business support to women and women's groups.
    • Help to tackle deforestation and protect the fragile environment that farmers rely on for their livelihoods through renewable fuelwood schemes.
