Books Abroad SCIO

150,000 good quality, carefully selected, donated books are sent annually directly to overseas schools and other educational organisations. We are entirely demand driven.

Founded 1982

  • Mission statement

Books Abroad aims to alleviate poverty in the most deprived countries of the world by supporting literacy. We do this by supplying good quality donated educational books free of charge to schools, libraries and colleges in areas where poverty makes such reading material extremely hard to secure. These books would otherwise end up in landfill sites instead of going on to a new life where they have enormous value. In addition to this when funds permit we purchase certain up-to-date text books. Books Abroad was established in 1982 and now supports schools and other educational organisations in over 95 countries worldwide.

  • Aims

    Books Abroad SCIO aims to:

    • At Books Abroad we aspire to support the education of communities worldwide by sending them carefully chosen second-hand books.
    • How does one portray a child suffering a lack of education? We aim to promote literacy, education and understanding, which provides the means of a sustainable escape route from the plight of poverty.
